How to Prepare for Matrescence
Six ways to keep a sense of self as you transition to motherhood.
“Everyone knows adolescents are uncomfortable and awkward because they are going through extreme mental and bodily changes, but, when they have a baby, women are expected to transition with ease—to breeze into a completely new self, a new role, at one of the most perilous and sensitive times in the life course.”

About
Hilary Oliver
Hilary came late to motherhood, in part because she loved her life as it was and feared losing herself. She didn’t realize that there was room for change—even transformation—within motherhood while still remaining true to one’s self.
After much research into the concept of matrescence (the transition to motherhood), she created this guided journal to be the postpartum resource she wishes she’d had.
Her writing has appeared in magazines like Outside, Bust and National Geographic Adventure, and she collaborates with brands like HOKA and REI to help them tell their stories, too. She loves trail running and gardening and lives with her husband and son in Missoula, Montana.
You can read more of her work on her newsletter.
